A Changing of the Guards
The Building Hope project has a renewed commitment to assist some of the young people at AIC Nuru succeed as they establish themselves in business. We had the privilege of being present as the original committee of Building Hope passed the torch to the new committee. The term of service as a Building Hope committee member is two years. We at Fruited Plains are grateful for the commitment and service provided by the committee who extended their obligation in order to ensure the success of this project. It was a privilege to meet the new committee. Their level of enthusiasm for serving is infectious. They eagerly take on the commitment to further the success of the project. The new committee is seeking out the right people to serve as mentors to the Building Hope recipients. Training will be provided to all new mentors in order to assist them in this ministry. Due to the conflict in Kenya that began in January, there was some delay in re-payment but since that time, the recipients of the loans have been fulfilling their obligation to re-pay. Unfortunately, we do not have any pictures to share. We were so involved in meeting with the committee this year, re-structuring and getting new policies in place; we failed to remember to take photos of current recipients or of the new committee (oops!) There were no new loans given this year. This was due to the political unrest and violence at the beginning of the year as well as the writing of new policies for the project and the “changing of the guards” with the committee. We are looking forward to moving forward in 2009 and seeing how God will bless current and new businesses this coming year.
