Fruited Plains is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization. We believe everyone should have food to eat, a place to live, and
an opportunity to provide for themselves and their family.

New Businesses begin in Kitale

The Building Hope Project funded eight new loans this past July. Two of the beneficiaries are raising chickens. Four others have opened small grocery and general item kiosks in key locations. Another has opened a small boutique where she mends and sells used clothing to the locals. And one recipient used her loan to purchase a miller to grind maize. She grinds and sells maize as well as grinds the maize of her customers for a fee. Ground maize is used to make Ugali which is a staple food in Kenya. If you ask a Kenyan what their favorite dish is, 95% of the people will say, "Ugali". A milling business is a very necessary and profitable business.

We had the opportunity to visit some of the recipients at their local shops and make a few small purchases. Josephine, one of the recipients, purchases and sells fresh vegetables Mondays through Saturday. We purchased some of the best onions we have ever tasted.

Eight new people have volunteered to serve as mentors to the recipients. They will meet with their assigned recipient a minimum of one time a month to provide encouragement, support, and accountability.

We wish all the new recipients God's blessings in their business as they take steps to provide for themselves and their families.
