The Gift of an Education

In our update from 2009, we told you of our good friend’s at Creative Teaching who donated two pallets of books and school supplies.  In February, Fruited Plains was able to assist four schools with books and supplies for their classrooms.

Two of the schools were in Kopsiro, Mt Elgon, an area that was devastated by land clashes from 2006 through the end of 2oo8.  As we distributed the supplies, the appreciation of the teachers and head masters that work tirelessly with minimal resources was evident.  It was the joy of the children however that will be forever etched in our minds.  They enthusiastically greeted us and sang and danced praises to God for the visitors and gifts they brought.   It was not toys they sought.  It was the presence of visitors and the supplies that would help them learn they were grateful for.

The other schools Fruited Plains assisted were in Kitale, an agricultural town made up of about 60,000 people.  Like most of Kenya, schools have to rely on funds and resources from outside sources as the government does not offer subsidies for most education.  Fruited Plains was grateful we were able to assist these schools.  We look forward to assisting more schools when we return in August, 2010.

Thank you again to Creative Teaching.   Your generosity is helping to change the lives of children.
